GEDINP VENCE O MELHOR MEMORIAL EM PORTUGUÊS DA 16 INTERAMERICAN HUMAN RIGHTS MOOT COURT COMPETITION

Gostaria de informar que o CENTRO UNIVERSITARIO NEWTON PAIVA, através da equipe do GRUPO DE ESTUDOS EM DIREITO INTERNACIONAL - GEDINP, além de ter conquistado no Brasil Prêmio de Melhor Memorial do Concurso Nacional Sistema Interamericano de Direitos Humanos da Presidencia da República 2011, venceu também o Prêmio de Melhor Memorial em Português da 16 American University Interamerican Human Rights Moot Court Competition, que ocorreu em Washington, DC, EUA. Equipe formada pelos professores William Ken Aoki e Tatiana Ribeiro de Souza, pelas oradoras Natalia Luisa Lima Suares e Paula de Souza Constante, e pela equipe de apoio e pesquisa Marcela de Fátima Menezes Máximo, Aline Gabriela e Ludmila Costa.

Conforme mensagem abaixo da organização da competição, ocorreu um equivoco e nosso memorial tinha sido colocado como espanhol, e a prêmio de forma equivocada foi atribuído a segunda colocada UNIVILLE, que doravante foi classificada como melhor memorial das vitimas em português e o nosso o melhor memorial geral em português e o melhor memorial do Estado em português.

Essa vitória é histórica pois é o epílogo de três anos de intenso e sério trabalho desenvolvido pelo GEDINP que potencializa as competências e habilidades dos nossos alunos para colocá-los em nível de igualdade e excelência acadêmica com as melhores instituições de ensino do Brasil e do Mundo!

Essa é uma prova clara como o estudo e o conhecimento são instrumentos de transformação de realidades, compromisso assumido pelo CENTRO UNIVERSITÁRIO NEWTON PAIVA.

Agradecemos ao apoio dado pelo Grupo Splice, pela Reitoria e pró-reitorias, nas pessoas do Reitor Dr. Luis Carlos S. Vieira e Sudário Papa Filho, dos Coordenadores do Curso de Direito Jean Carlos Fernandes e Gustavo Costa Nassif, da coordenação pedagogica Ana Lucia Fernandes Paulo, à AGERP, MASSAN-Z, ASCOM e, em especial a todos os membros do GEDINP que construíram essa bela história de vitórias e conquistas.

E pensar que tudo começou como um sonho distante com apenas um aluno (Victor Assis) e um professor (eu) na biblioteca do curso de direito, nas férias de julho de 2007, e em julho de 2011 conseguimos figurar como vencedores do melhor memorial na etapa internacional da maior competição em direitos humanos da atualidade.

Parabéns a todos os ex-membros que acreditaram nesse sonho e a todos os membros que o tornaram realidade.

RESSALTE-SE QUE A PARTICIPAÇÃO DA DELEGAÇÃO TANTO NA ETAPA NACIONAL NO RIO DE JANEIRO COMO INTERNACIONAL EM WASHINGTON FOI TOTALMENTE FINANCIADA COM RECURSOS PRÓPRIOS DOS PROFESSORES E ALUNOS.

"Dear William, Natalia, and Paula, Team Members of Centro Universitario Newton Paiva:

Thank you for bringing to our attention the discrepancy of scores regarding the award for the Best Memorial in Portuguese. Transparency has long been an important part of how we run our Competition. The importance of this practice becomes especially important when issues such as this occur. After carefully reviewing the situation, it is without doubt that your team had the highest score among memorials written in Portuguese. During the Competition, your university was erroneously grouped with Spanish-speaking teams, and was therefore overlooked for this important award. The organizers of the Competition would like to try to right this error. We have already made certificates with your names that we will send to your University, an electronic copy of which are attached to this email. We are also working with our suppliers to get a plaque prepared for you, which we will send as soon as it is available. Additionally, we would like to waive the registration fee for your University to participate in the 2012 Competition. With regards to addressing the larger situation of recognizing UNIVILLE, we hope you understand this is a very delicate situation. After careful consideration, the Technical Committee has decided to begin awarding outstanding memorials for each side in each language. Given the growth of the Competition, this is something that should be done anyway, and will be instituted officially next year. For this year, on our website, you will be recognized as winners of the best memorial in Portuguese for the State, and UNIVILLE for the best Portuguese memorial for the Victims. We will provide similar awards in English and Spanish, which also will be on our website. Finally, we want to assure you that steps are being taken so that this type of error will not occur in the future. Language will be an official part of the registration process, and all universities’ names will be accompanied by their language of choice in our database. We are only sorry that such a program was not instituted earlier, potentially preventing this year’s error. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we worked to resolve this matter. Congratulations on an outstanding memorial, and a wonderful performance at the 2011 Competition. If there is anything further we can do to address your concerns, please let us know.
